Midland Shar Pei Club Limit Show
Date: 12th Febuary 2005
Venue: Baginton Village Hall, Baginton, Nr Coventry
Judge: Claire Davis (DEAKIE)
With grateful thanks to the Officers and Committee for giving me the opportunity to judge your show, and thanks also to the exhibitors for allowing me to meet your beautiful dogs. This is the most wonderful of breeds, and as its custodians we should be honoured. A general overview of the exhibits:.... construction is an all important feature on any breed, and our breed is no different. OK, perhaps we have a few little quirks that set us apart from the majority of other dog breeds, but still our dogs should be able to move freely with reach and drive. Coats need watching. This is one of the things that set this breed apart. Many were soft, and length of coat is no excuse for lack of harshness. I forgive this in puppies, but adult dogs of either coat type should have correct harshness to the touch. Pigmentation is also a very important feature of this breed, and many had just adequate pigmentation. A blue/black mouth means just that, it does not mean a blue/black mouth with pink bits.
All exhibits had good steady temperaments, and only 1 backed off under examination in a breed that is naturally wary of strangers. That has to be some commendation of the soundness in temperaments we are seeing of late.
